I usually post on the Lyme Disease Healthboard. However, I thought you guys might be interested in my story. I got TMJ overnight last January along with excruciating neck muscles, jaw pain, ear pain, etc. I couldn't figure HOW I could get TMJ overnight!

To make a long story short back in May I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease - which evidently attacked my jaw joints. I have been on 9 weeks of antibiotics and am just getting some relief.

Just wanted to bring this up - in case I could help someone out there.

Actually I was tested twice at the onset of symptoms which came on suddenly as well and both times the test came back negative. I guess it wouldn't hurt to get tested again since it has now been more than a year since the last testing but I have been on and off anitbiotics for other things I would think by now if I had lyme it would have been snuffed out by now, but I know lyme can be tricky to treat and in some cases require several different anitbiotics to stop it. I'm glad you're starting to get some relief.

My TMJ arose just after getting Lyme disease as well. Also, I had similar symptoms such as muscular pain and stiffness.

I didn't go with the antibiotics though. I went with various alternative modalities such as Rife machines and then the Salt-C protocol. I'm doing well now.

Hello,
I hope I can find answers here on this board. I am so frustrated with my situation I could just scream!
Here is my story:
For the past two years I have been experiencing pain and swelling on the left side of my jaw and face. I have been to more doctors then I care to recall. I was finally told last September that I had a cyst in one of my small glands in my jaw that needed to be removed. So I had that done. I am now a year later still in pain and still swollen. Every doctor I go to tells me the same thing: You must have tmj. Well, I inform them that I have been to several doctors who specialize in TMJ disorder and they all say that it is not TMJ.
Also, It is my understanding that TMJ would not cause swelling under my Jawline and side of face?
This post about Lyme disease really makes me wonder if perhaps that is what I have? Would it cause swelling?
I have been given a clean bill of health by all doctors that I have been to. No signs of cancer. When the doctor removed the cyst, he basically stated that he had never seen anything quite like it. But tested it and said no cancer was found.
If anyone here has experienced any of the following symptoms and perhaps can give me an idea what could be going on with me, I would really appreciate it.
* Fatigue
* Modest weight gain ( a few pounds )
* ringing in the left ear
* swelling on left side of face and jaw
* dull pain on left jaw and face
* pain seems more intense when I am stressed out about something.
* When i touch the left side of my jaw, that area of skin tingles to the touch whereas the other side of my jaw feels "normal' to the touch.

I think that is it. I am most concerned about the swelling.

It sounds as if you are falling through the cracks between TMJ and other fields. While it is possible that you have Lyme disease, I haven't heard of cysts being caused by Lyme.

You need to find a doctor that will give you more answers than what you have gotten so far, I don't know what kind of specialist is appropriate, but perhaps start over in your mind and find a new group of doctors or go to a really good TMJ specialist.

I would think you need more tests run, such as MRI's, etc.

Another idea is to work with someone alternative. I have had good experience with Dr.Jeff Sutherland. He is a highly skilled researcher specializing in electromedicine and uses dowsing as a primary method of determining illness. He does consultations and might be able to get some clarity as to what is causing the swelling and pain. It may sound too alternative, but you asked.

Also, he works with Lyme disease, so if you happen to have something unusual going on as an infection or virus, this would be who I would be on the phone with. He shouldn't be hard to find on the web.
