They usually are related due to the fact that the head is balanced on the neck (upper cervical spine) and part of the balancing has to due with the position of the lower jaw. Most times the creaking is related to the C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis) vertebrae being slightly out of alignment. This can also cause pain in the back, shoulder or arm and even facial tingling and ear ringing. You may want to find a good chiro to treat it or ask your tmj dr to evaluate your bite and position of the lower jaw.
