Any Suggestions for 2nd Opinion - TMJ Disorder -TemporoMandibular Joint Message Board

Hi, I posted my story yesterday. I was told by Dr. Dolwick in Gainesville, Florida that I need a total Joint Replacement. I have had a past surgery with him and feel comfortable with his ability BUT I would like a second and maybe third opinion. I have read that the more surgeries you have had the less chance of a successful joint replacement operation. This would be my 3rd surgery. Can anyone suggest another dr? I dont mind traveling.

I have no experience with joint replacement surgery but have been on the boards for some time - try and do an advanced search on the tmj forum for a dr in Boston, MA ( I think) - the member highly recommended him for joint replacement surgery. I think I may have written his name down and I will look for it since I was thinking of eventually having to travel as well. If I can't find it I will try to search for the old post as well. Have you checked the Great TMJ Dr thread posted at the top of the forum? The member may have posted it there.

I found it - it was a Dr Allen Tarro in the Boston area. Maybe you could do some research on what his specialty is. Did you happen to notice there is a dr in VA at VCU listed in the Great TMJ dr thread? Thought that might be a bit closer but again not sure what his specialty is. Some surgeons do it all and some limit themselves to only certain types.

Hi, I cant tell you how much I appreciate this.

I will contact them both. Never thought to ask them their specialties. I have seen the same 2 drs for so long and put 100% into my relationship with them. Getting a variety of opinions is new territory for me. My problems started when a surgeon did a "bad" surgery on me so I am nervous to even visit someone else. Thanks for your time and if you think of anything else, please let me know. I hope that you feel okay and are getting relief somewhere. All the best, Ellen
