exhasperated, depressed, furious. tmj unrecognised.
Hi
I've had hearing loss in my right ear for 6 months, and an ear infection. I've had antibiotics, sprays, and finally today a visit to the ear nose and throat hospital. I've also had on the same side, severe face pains, headaches, more migraines from the face pain, severe sore throats, shoulder and neck pains - and the doctor at ENT told me he can't see anything wrong and come back in 6 months if it's still painful and he'll give me a hearing aid (and how exactly will that cure the pain?). I'm absolutely astounded at the idiocy of the man. No referal, no notice taken of my jaw pain and head pains, headaches, sore throats..............just - "well i can't see any infection, goodbye"...............i've waited 6 months in the hope that this appointment will help clear it up. I'm gutted. His only response was - wait for it - "it's your age". I'm 56, and i may? have lost a little sharpness to my hearing in general over the years (i hadn't noticed until i went deaf in my right ear), but to tell me that having sudden hearing loss in one ear with an ear infection is due to my age (and the inference that i must just suffer), is the pinnacle of arrogance and laziness. Luckily i have a good dentist, who is going to send me to the dental hospital for treatment for tmj. She would not do this while i had an obvious ear infection. How many people must come away from so-called NHS specialists totally despairing (after all, you do believe that this is as good as you're going to get). How astounding and irresponsible that an NHS so-called specialist in ear, nose and throat ailments can't recognise/ knows nothing of tmj and hearing loss and has nothing more to offer for advice than an hearing aid in 6 months time?
God help us.
