So my symptoms are basically only on the left side of my face.

My dentist said he didn't see anything MAJOR, but suggested i go see my family doctor and said that a trip to the oral surgeon may be a good idea to have it looked at further.

I have a facial tick/spasm (for lack of a better term) on the left side of my face. It really feels like a nerve somewhere. It's something i've had for as long as I can remember, but now the inside corner of my mouth (between top and bottom set of teeth) is becoming irritated, red, and very painful. If I could keep my mouth still for a week or so, i'm convinced it would heal up.

The problem is that i can't keep it still. Try as I might, I just can't.

Contrary to most of your stories, my symptoms actually feel best in the morning after a nice long night of sleep, where i'm remaining still and calm.

My doc gave me an antibotic (it's just ammoxocillin) to help just inc ase it's some of infection, but so far, after 3 days, it reallyd oesn't feel like that's helping. It just feels like it's been rubbed raw.

My family doctor ruled it some kind of condition of the TMJ, and made me an appointment with an oral surgeon to take a look at it, but he also didn't seem to concerned with the pain, and overall uncomfortableness i have with this situation.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can i do to help relax the left side of my face?

Try sticking some gauze in between your cheek and teeth or in between your upper and lower teeth on the left side. Did the dr suggest you see a neuro for trimengial neuralgia. If its nerve related tegretal (sp) may help calm the nerve down

I had problems for about 2-3 years with the left corner of my lips/mouth twitching and pulling - it started with the upper lip and then progressed to the lower lip. I even felt like I sometimes was drooling on that side. After a couple years the left side of my face started to ache and then the lower left side of my jaw started to pull out towards the left and looked and felt swollen but no one could confirm anything. I eventually developed full blown facial/cranial and tongue spasms related to tmj because my jaw and bite became deviated. Once this started I couldn't keep my mouth still either. Your lucky your dr recognized it as related to tmj - my dr refused to acknowledge it and sent me down the path that it was neruological or related to the central nervous system or auto-immune diseases.

For the pain you may want to ask your dr for some pain and anti-spasm meds or muscle relaxants - there are so many to choose from but baclofen is a common antispasm med. The OS may be able to prescribe something as well.
