This past summer I had five molars removed on the top and had already lost an equal number on the bottom. I had to wait for three months to get the impression for the partial so everything could heal and then it did not fit properly so the whole process was repeated and I am due to see if the new one fits on Monday. Since late December I have had a feeling of ears being clogged and a continaul ringing in my ears which is, of course, worse at night and in the early morning. I have been to an EMT who can not seem to find a serious sinus or ear infection despite my noticing congestion, drainage, etc. My thinking was blocked ears due to sinus congestion, but I am beginning to wonder now if this is TMJ related. The ENT thought I had some TMJ.
So, my question is - has anyone experienced ear ringing with TMJ? If so, what, if anything, helped to relieve that? This is so annoying and uncomfortable and I feel like I am going in circles trying to find an answer. Any thoughts or experiences would be most helpful.
My TMJ began with clogged ears and then ringing in the ears. Later I developed a whole slew of symptoms - one of which is the sinus congestion. I hate it. I would see a TMJ specialist in your area. They can correctly diagnosis you and provide treatment suggestions. Many people get better quickly.
Thank you very much for responding to me. I really appreciate it. I am seeing my dentist on Monday for my new upper partial and will talk to him about this. I am hoping that maybe correcting my bite with the new teeth will help. If not, I will continue to seek answers.
Is your TMJ under control? Did the correction of the problem solve the ringing in your ears?
Again, thank you so much and I hope that you are feeling better.
I'm on my 2nd splint now and while I'm not rid of TMJ symptoms I'm in a better place than a year ago. After 6 months on my first splint some of my symptoms improved (ear congestion, tightness in my left temple) but others worsened or showed no improvement. I had more of an improvement after starting to wear my splint while eating. Then I switched to a new TMJ dentist and a new splint hoping to improve further... instead I've regressed a bit... with more frequent flare ups.
I still have the ringing in my ears... this is actually the most tolerable of my symptoms as I only hear it when it's quiet. Hopefully, you'll be one of the ones that respond really well to treatment and quickly recover. This board is a great resource to learn about treatment approaches and alternative therapies.
