| TMJ Doctors in New York - Advice?
I have checked out the great doctors thread and saw Dr. Syrop mentioned. Any info about other doctors in the NY, NY area who specialize in this?
Am pretty sure I've having a flare-up of TMJ disorder due to stress as well as trying an orthodontic mouthguard that was specially made and (turns out) no longer fit me, (was trying to prevent grinding at night). My bite was a little off before I guess after wearing the mouthguard my back teeth don't even meet, can't open my mouth too wide, and feel a constant ache on the joints and urge to bite down.
I need periodontic surgery and another mouthguard but I need my jaw to relax so I can even open up my mouth at the doctor's... would love to find someone who's an expert in these matters. Also, I feel like this flared up for me about ten years ago... maybe not as bad... and it cleared up on its own (except some popping in my jaw which I ignored). Anyone find this comes and goes? I think I'd rather let it go again than go to someone who doesn't know what they're doing and makes it worse.
