Has anyone tried self-trigger point therapy?

Hello everyone,

I am trying to relieve the tightness in my temporalis and forehead muscles which leads to continuous feelings of heavy-headedness and disequlibrium. I have recently bought Claire Davies' book on trigger point therapy but I cannot seem to get the hang of it. In fact, I seem to have made matters worse by going the wrong way about it.

I would really apprecite any advice regarding this matter. I don't have headaches or pain per se but the tightness in temporalis and forehead is enough to make me walk around feeling very wobbly most of the time especially if I have to stand up for longer than a few minutes.

Thanks a lot,..

Re: Has anyone tried self-trigger point therapy?

It might be best if you start with just stretching, rather than pushing. When you do press the trigger points, remember your neck muscles are fairly small and might not need much pressure. Also, you may find significant tension in the trapezius muscle, which is a bit safer to play with.

You might also benefit from one session with a professional. It's easier to keep the muscles loose once the worst of the tension has been broken up. The international MYOPAIN society doesn't seem to have any members listed in Jordan, though I did see one in Saudi Arabia and one in Israel. Perhaps they could refer you to someone closer to you.

I picked her book up from the library, but I also don't do it, tried it. I use muscle relaxers instead. the problem is with the bite, and everything else we do in my opinion is a short term relief.

My osteo helps me, she can feel the knots on my R. neck and works them everytime I go in, but that is a symptom and not the cause.
