Does anyone have any suggestions for sleeping? Sleeping pills don't help and I'm in constant pain. It hurts more to lay down and then I start worrying about everything under the sun, my mind starts spinning and before i know it the sun is coming up.
I know a great "pill" prescribed to me by a doctor. It helped me a lot many years ago when I just couldn't fall asleep.
When in bed lie down on your back, place your hand over your tummy (just below the ribs). Inhale slowly through the nose, exhale slowly and hold your breath for few seconds (on exhale!!). The hand helps to make sure you breathe "in the stomach" not in the chest. Count: "one". Repeat.
It should be comfy, don't force yourself too much to hold the breath, on the other hand keep it long enough to notice. Your breathing should remain regular. Do until 50 or whatever count.
When I tried I could hardly recall the next day whether I was able to reach 20 or only 15!!
Let me know how this will go.
I know it does not help everyone, but when I am in bad pain, I say to myself: I can fall asleep, I can... and I breathe deeper..... and I somehow fall asleep.
I have another suggestion not before the sleep. Ask yourself what would it do positive for you not to fall asleep easily on a regular basis.
ASK, not tell yourself! Just listen for the inner voice which might tell you right away or later what's going on inside you.
I did this on migraines and eventually they were gone from my understanding of "why I needed them" in my life.
This might sound crazy but you'd pay a lot of money to have someone with a lot of training work on you for many sessions and basically talk about the same as I said.
my TMJ hurts worse when I sleep on the sides. The pain is hard to ignore when you are trying to fall asleep. unfortunatly I have had to use sleeping meds for some time. but withouot them I dont sleep and the pain is worse the next day because light somehow really hurts me it clouds my brain and my joints acutally burn
