I was taking Tylenol PMs for the longest time. I knew that I could not take Tylenol for an extended period of time safely, so I decided to grin and bear the pain. I went to the store and decided to just by a sleep aid. I take two (total of 50mg diphenhydramine) and am 70% better in the morning. I have also heard over and over that taking these pills long term are not good, either. Addictive, yada yada.
This is what is so strange. Diphenhydramine is actually used as an antihistamine. It is amazing how there are SO many different names for drugs, but when you look at the back label it is the same thing!!!
Like the other day I was getting some Excedrin Migraine and I noticed that there was no difference whatsoever between SUPER Excedrin Migraine and Excedrin Migraine for neck and Back. What's the point?
Long story short, people take antihistamines every day for allergies. If it is the exact same drug used for sleep aids, why should someone worry about taking those...simply b/c the outer label says it is "designed" for something else.
Anyway, I am def going to mention how these sleeping aids (ahem, antihistamines) are working for me when I finally get to see my first specialist come June.
This is what I am thinking about sleep aids helping with TMJ (I noticed someone brought up Ambien on another thread). I think they make you fall into such a deep sleep that your subconscious or
whatever it is that makes you clench goes MIA. But on the topic of Ambien, I will stay away from that if the antihistamines work just fine. I have heard too many horror stories.
