Are regular dentures ok for tmj sufferer?

Hello, I am 46 have tmj and fm. Generally in good health otherwise. The years of tmj wearing at my jaw and teeth have led me to opt for full dental extraction. Then I will be getting dentures to replace the mess that some call teeth.
My question is can I go for traditional dentures (a much more affordable choice). vs the implants (apparently my health plan does not cover this option). Please advise - thanx in advance.

Re: Are regular dentures ok for tmj sufferer?

Keilor,
I'm 52 and due to a variety of health issues I had all of my teeth pulled out 3 years ago. I got traditional dentures and I haven't looked back. I really like them.
It took me a couple of months to get used to them, and after that it was clear sailing.
My TMJ specialist has built them up to set my bite in the correct position, so instead of making another splint, he's used the dentures like a plate.
Good luck and let me know if you have any other questions.
Peggy

Luvtocamp,
I have full dentures, an upper plate and a lower plate. I found that they've helped with the TMJ as my dentist has adjusted my bite directly on my dentures. Instead of making another splint, or building up or shaving down a crown, he has built up areas of the dentures as needed.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Peggy
