Please help! Anyone had Orthognathic surgery???

hey everyone!!!

I'm back to let you know my update! i feel miserable at the moment... i went to the specialists and i have been wearing my stabilization splint 24/7 its an upper one and so so ugly !!

anyways i have been told ever since that dentist moved around my teeth and only my back teeth touch i need to get orthognathic surgery!

See i need it as my teeth done match .. theres no gurantee it will get rid of my earaches .. and i just couldnt bear for them to be as bad as they were 2 years back.. they are much better now with the splint i wear 24/7 but i dont think thats an option.. wearing the splint forever 24/7 as i will never have a bite..

Any advice at all.. could it make my ears as bad as it used to be.. ive only read bad things... and i am scared incase it creates new tmj symptoms such as headaches as i never get them ever.. but i am mostly scared it makes my earaches worse... any advice friends?

Hi Temera - what do they plan to do - move the lower jaw forward by breaking it near the back and putting pins in? Have you had other opinions on this? there are other ways to increase the biting distance such as using braces to reposition your teeth and then insert dental implants or even do bridges to fill in the gaps where add'l teeth may be needed - assuming there is sufficient space to begin with. Moving the lower jaw forward will change the space around the joints - is that what they are trying to achieve?

There are several older posts in the Dental Problem forum of others who have gone through orthognathic surgery that you may want to check out. Or do a Advanced Search on the forum using orthognathic surgery or jaw surgery as the key words.
