Throat problems

Can tmj cause the roof of your mouth back near the uvula feel funny? I don't exactly have a pain but more of a uncomfortable feeling. It isn't always in the same spot, in moves from one side to the other. I also get a tingling on the tip of my tongue and upper lip. Is this common? My mouth and throat does feel better when I put in my nightguard but the minute it comes out is when the feeling starts even though there are some days or when I am not thinking about it, it doesn't bother me. Any info helpful.
Thanks
Cheri

Hi--I think from what you are saying that maybe you need to wear some sort of splint during the day as well as the night. Maybe your jaw likes the vertical dimension the splint is giving you, and your muscles as well. All those little twitches and tingling sensations are very common with tmjd, especially if you have muscle spasms daily. Maybe you should consult your tmj specialist to see if you need a splint for day and night, or be more thoroughly examined to see exactly what's going on. What kind of guard do you wear @ night? -J.

Re: Throat problems

I wear one that was made from a mold of my upper teeth and it is hard. I will ask about a day one at my next visit. Thanks

HI---watch your upper splint progress very closely. Upper splints let your mandible slide all over the place @ night, and they don't hold your jaw in a certain position. Just watch your treatment progress, and let your dentist know if you have any problems what so ever. That's why you pay them the big bucks, right?
