Ok so I have had TMJ disorder for about a year and a half. I had a splint that cost me 1000 dollars (which i could not believe). But that ended up getting chewed up by my pug. Now I may try to take it in and see if there is insurance or something on it because it helped a lot. But I have not been to that doctor in like 6 months. I thought my TMJ was cured but as the splint was missing my TMJ started coming back slowly. Now I am to the point where I wake up with headaches, my jaw fells dislocated as I open it (veres left), I have pain in my jaw and neck, neck is always stiff, and trembling jaw... I also did some chiropractic treatment for a while and that worked but it seemed to only be for that time. Its also expensive for a college student! Just a couple questions Can this TMJ disorder be caused from my neck because it is always stiff these days? What kind of treatment do you guys reccomend? And do any of you guys ever have a tremble in your jaw when your opening your mouth (like as your drinking)??

HI--Get back to a tmj specialist and get a proper splint made. Your neck is acting up because of the jaw, and it will get worse if left untreated. That usually is a symptom after the mandible or bite is off, not the other way around. If you don't have a hot water bottle, use hot towels whenever youcan on your sore muscles, and get in to get a thorough exam. Trust me, it can get much worse, especially if you start to get joint damage or arthritis in the joints. The trembling is all a part of the muscles working over time to protect your joints...good luck to you! (You can ask your dentist to bill under MPD--mayofacial pain disorder, or migraines to get it covered under your health ins. policy...I know several people who have gotten coverage in that way) If you need a good referral, let us know..
I can get them to bill it under mayo facial pain disorder?? how do I go about that ???
Just ask them about it. If you don't have tmj coverage on your policy, some specialists will work with you and bill under that code. Just this week I called 2 different tmj specialists for a friend and asked them point blank if they would bill under MPD, and they said yes. Also, my cranial sacral therapist has told me that for some of her patients they've billed under migraines. The only problem you might run into if your tmj specialist that you've chosen will not bill under MPD without your doctor actually diagnosing you with it, you might then have to go to your family doctor and explain the situation. That's were it can get tricky. Hopefully you won't have to deal with that garbage.
