Do you avoid dental visits?

Am ashamed to say I haven't been to the dentist for about 8 years now as a result of the TMJ exacerbation it causes me. Am I the only one who avoids the dentist due to their TMJ problems?

Re: Do you avoid dental visits?

Yes, I've been avoiding the dentist. I think it's been about 2 years for me, however I'm booked in for this afternoon. I've also booked myself in for physio afterwards so that hopefully they can counteract any stress put on my jaw from being open for however long the appointment will take.

Re: Do you avoid dental visits?

Physiotherapist. I think it's the same thing as a Physical Therapist.

The dentist I went to yesterday actually trained with my OMS, who does a lot of work with TMJ patients, so she knew a fair bit about it. She didn't make me open wide, she gave frequent breaks, and when my masseter (cheeks) muscles started to spasm, she stopped and lightly massaged my joints for a few minutes. She was really good.

Then my physiotherapist did about a half hour massage of my temples/cheeks (face), neck and shoulders, which were all really tight.
