I have been here awhile, just giving you an update. I have been having constant pain in my lower face for more than a year. It's a deep, pulling, burning pain with pin-like stabs. I have been to a lot of medical exams, without any results, tried medications, splints, yoga, physiotherapy, chiropractic, reflexology, accupuncture, TMJ self help program...... no results.
I have a suspicion I might have trigger points, but I can not find the main one ( I have found minor ones in my neck which transfer pain to my ear, but they haven't touched my big pain)
Now I have been to a homeopath who immediately said there is a plexus under my ear. he was very determined. he is a reputable homeopath in my town. so he started accupuncture on me, put 3 needles into my jaw. (when I had accupuncture about a year ago, it was a different doctor, who put needles in different places, not in my jaw) now I don't feel too much difference, but I guess it takes some sessions... he also suggested I take 2 kinds of homeopathic pills....
I do not know what to think now, I just thought I would share this with you...

I hear what you are saying about not finding the trigger points sometimes. The PT that I'm going to right now in my opinion is excellent in soft tissue manipulation, and specializes in tmjd cases, and has always been able to help me find a trigger point if I come in with a really bad spasm somewhere. I think the key with tmjd and muscular issues is finding the right qualified people to treat us. It is maddening at times when we know what are body is going through, pretty much know how to treat ourselves at this point, but the so called professionals haven't a clue. Finding the right help in my opinion is about 98% of the battle, ----the other 2% is the torture of splint therapy. LOL!! (maybe I should have put the torture % a little higher, now that I'm thinking of it..)
I guess what the homeopath is talking about is a trigger point.... it can not be anything else, I have been to all sorts of exams...
I have read that accupuncture points and trigger points are the same in 70 %...
In summer I had a thermographic test, too, which showed lots of red points next to my ear and in my neck. then I did not know what they meant, but later I read that thermograpy shows trigger points as these points are warmer....
it's great that I'm diagnosing myself but can not solve the problem. I have been looking for specialists, but I can't find any....
