Re: Pulsating sound in ear
Hi Karen. A pulsating sound in your ear could possibly be a symptom of TMJ disorder. TMJD often puts pressure on the inner ear (due to muscles and the joint being out of normal position). Just to show how close the joint is to the delicate components of your ear, sick your finger in your ear and open and close your mouth. You will feel the movement of the joint right inside your ear. Many people experience ear-related symptoms due to TMJD. Some have ringing in their ears, so I think that pulsating in your ear could also be a possible symptom. Personally, I don't have any ear symptoms. Mine are all muscular.
There are, however, a lot of other conditions that could cause the pulsating sensation in your ears. Have you seen an ENT (ear, nose, and throat) specialist? Have you ruled out Menierre's Disease (inner ear condition causing symptoms like you describe). Usually (but not always), the ear symptoms won't be the only symptoms of TMJ. YOu would usually also experience some of the other, more common TMJ symptoms such as headaches, facial pain, neck pain, etc.
I would suggest that you don't try to diagnose yourself - you do need to see a specialist or two to nail down what the problem is. If I were you I would start with seeing an ENT. If he can't find anything wrong with your ear, then go see a TMJ specialist and go on from there.
