Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

I am not sure what triggered this, all I know is I got my wisdom teeth removed in December 08, got pregnant in April 09, and everything started July-August 09.

I went to my regular dentist today for just a cleaning. She told me that my teeth were really health, no cavities. And my gums look great. That is always good to hear, especially when all this started I went back and forth to the dentist because random teeth were hurting. So even though I am very obsessed with keeping my teeth clean, I know know that my issues have to be mainly the TMJ. I just wish I would have known about this before now.

Thank you so much TMJ82, even though I know there are many people going through this, just knowing that your story is very similar to mine, makes me feel less alone about this all.

it makes me feel better that I am not alone, too! My dental bridge was done 5 month ago and my front teeth shift almost continuously even since. In addition, my right side is shifting more, that has totally misplaced the midline and is causing me body pains due to muscles being in chaotic spasms.
It has all probably started with the TMD, but now my jaw is supposedly in place (according to the doctor), but the teeth movement continues. I have never had anything like that before, neither I know how to get rid of it besides braces and retainers. All this makes me mad as hell.
If in your treatment the doctor decides you may benefit from the splint therapy, use the upper splint. I am not sure if you will need braces after that, hopefully not. They cost a lot of money...

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Yep, today is one of those days where I am having to put on a brave face. It seems like everything wants to hurt today. The roof of my mouth, tongue and throat are hurting as well. Not only that but I am also nauseous. I really hate that feeling. It really does make everything worse. I wish I had a magic wand to make the pain go away. Only a few more days until my doctors appointment to get the referral to see the specialist.

I certainly know how you feel because I've been there. The roof of my mouth used to hurt early in the process; it stopped in a week or two and I started seeing dental arches and facial assymetry after that. I think the pain was from the soft palate muscles trying to adjust to unusual changes.
It is important to identify the cause; it was a faulty dental bridge in my case, but in yours perhaps wisdom teeth removal? I have read it can trigger TMJ. In any case, it is only a few days until you see a specialist. Please let us know.

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Again thank you so much.

This week/weekend has been rough. Especially considering I have a sinus issue. Every time I sneeze it hurts. Also this past week, I heard a pop in my right jaw. I don't know if that was a good thing or a bad thing, but it was the first time that I heard it.

I am so sorry your are not doing good! You are seeing someone tomorrow, right? Ask them to see the specialist fast because you are in pain. Try to see someone experienced in TMJ treatment as well as, if possible, functional orthodontics. If you need the referrals for both, I would just gotten them all at once - just in case. And please let us know how you are doing!

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Yes I am going to my PCM (Primary Care Manager - Doctor) tomorrow to get the referral. And for what I have been told, from another Army Wife here, getting an appointment with the specialist takes no time at all. She said that she got the referral on a Friday and her appointment with the specialist was that following Monday. I just hope I will be able to find someone to watch my daughter if I do end up getting a quick appointment. Especially considering I know I will have to drive about 2 1/2 hours just to get to the specialist.

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Well went to the doctor this morning to get the referral and it didn't go the way I thought it would. I told the doctor what I wanted and the process I have already been through. Told him that I have seen several dentist, oral surgeon, ENT, Endodotist, another PCM, and the list goes on. Gave him the whole history of what is going on and the progression of it. Well he put in a referral for a ENT because he doesn't know of a TMJ and if anyone does it would be the ENT. He also wanted x-rays of the joint. No big deal. He did give me a prescription for an allergy medication (so I don't have to buy it over the counter) (I didn't suffer with allergies in Indiana but still had the issues but in Louisiana allergies are horrible) and Naproxen for the pain. I told him that I currently have 2 referral for a TMJ from Indiana and one here in Louisana

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Good luck with ENT. I have not seen you obviously, but from your symptoms, I think there is nothing wrong with your ears. Agan, I have never seen you, but your symptoms are very similar to mine, and I know what happened to me. A bad dental bridge ruined my bite and caused all the teeth on the right to move inwards and down. That has changed the shape of my dental arch and made it asymmetrical enough to shift the center of gravity and strain the muscles allover the body and that has caused pains. I have even kept the mold of my upper arch to show my sceptical husband how asymmetrical it has become.
Now as I have that bridge cut and braces put it, I feel MUCH better. Almost pain-free instantly, and I used to have shooting/burning pains allover the body. Hopefully my dental and facial symmetry will be gradually restored, and I will remain pain-free as I was before.

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Well all I can do is just go with what the doctor want. I will wait to see the ENT and then go from there. But I am just irritated because I told him that I have three referrals already and have already seen an ENT in Indiana.

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

TMJ82, I have a question. Before you were diagnosed was there ever a time where you would experience pain in individual teeth. I have been having an ache is certain teeth but everytime I go and get it checked out nothing is wrong. So basically I just don't know if I am going to be able to tell the difference between actually dental pain and the TMJ pain.

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Yes, it all started with the pain in individual teeth, especially two of them. Surprisingly, one of the teeth that hurt the most was root-canaled. I had all my teeth checked and was told that everything is fine but the root-canaled tooth has crack in the filling so maybe that was causing the pain. I followed the doctor's suggestion and had it crowned, but the pain did not stop. It went away on its own somewhat later, but by the time - all my body was in pain and I saw massive tooth movement.
I am pretty sure that in my cause, the pain was due to teeth shifting and the roots changing position. I am sure that was not the actual teeth causing pain, but their movement.

I am not sure if I can tell the difference between the actual tooth pain and that random ache. Probably, yes but not immediately.

Re: New to all this/ still waiting to see a specialist.

Okay, thank you. Today and some other days random teeth will be hurting. And I have been to the dentist in Indiana several times a month because of it. I had a dentist appointment last week and she said that everything looked great, no cavities, infection, gums were healthy. It is just so aggravating
