Looking for TMJ Sufferers Who Had Wisdom Teeth Pulled
I am a long time TMJ sufferer. I try and manage my condition because I haven't been able to find reliable help that I think can alleviate my symptoms. I recently had an xray done and my dentist and oral surgeon both recommended that I get my wisdom teeth removed. This presents obvious risks for someone who already suffers from TMJ. Anyone here successfully have their wisdom teeth removed with TMJ? I'm pretty nervous about surgery bc while it isn't pleasant to deal with this on a daily basis, I can't imagine what it would be like if it were a lot worse. Appreciate any feedback you guys can offer.

I've been under Eastmen Dental Hospital London doctors found removing wisdom teeth made tmj symptons worse. I've spoke to others that had them removed and it hasn't helped.
Re: Looking for TMJ Sufferers Who Had Wisdom Teeth Pulled
Greg,
I have had tmj for many years and have undergone 2 surgeries, which the second one went very well.I had my bottom wisdom teeth pulled when I was 17 or so and he said my uppers would never drop.Well naturally they did in the last couple years.I just went to see my specialist today actually about my top wisdom teeth and he feels it's best in my situation to remove them bc they are effecting my bite and my splint. He says with top wisdom teeth that are not impacted it is a fairly simple procedure and he will be using things to ensure that my jaw will not be forced open to wide that would cause further pains and damage.I'm not sure if you need to have all wisdom teeth out or just tops or just bottoms.A lot is based on each person and your doctor.I to have been putting up with pain and what not thinking I didn't want to cause more issues but after talking with my specialist I feel much better.I'm not saying that nothing could go wrong but he's confident and fully answered all questions and concearns. So really sit down and talk with your doctor.Hopefully he us someone who deals with Tmj so he can help you to the best of your ability. my uppers are scheduled to be done next week, so I could post how it goes if that something you could benefit from.Hope some of this helps.
