Things were made worse!

Has anyone been treated and had their symptoms made worse? Ever since I started wearing the splint made for my bottom teeth, both ears became more congested, especially the right side, which is the side where my disc is off. In addition, I also developed clicking on the left side after wearing the splint for 3 weeks. So I decided to stop wearing it and the stuffy hearing went away. However, even though I stopped using the splint, my right ear still sounds kinda blocked when I hum, which I DID NOT have prior to wearing the splint.

I kept telling the dentists. All they said was, "That's strange...things usually get worse in the beginning, but will get better." Clearly there is a problem with the splint they created for me since my ears are more stuffy when I wear the splint, but clears up when I take it off!! His assistants, who are also dentists are the ones who usually does the adjusting for my splint, but I feel like they are very incompetent. They adjust my splint several times during each visit, and they still can't get it right. Sometimes the right side feels higher in my mouth, and sometimes the left side. I'm wondering if that's what's causing my hears to be more stuffy. I've spent about $5,000 and had things made worse for me!! The electro-stim therapy was what made the treatment so expensive and it didn't even help me...not one bit! I was referred by my chiropractor and decided to go because of tons of positive testimonials with a 90% success rate. I'm starting to suspect if the testimonials are even real.

Are TMJ specialists supposed to monitor the position of your jaw w/ scans while you wear the splint to make sure it's putting your jaw in the right position? The reason I ask this is bc I'm seeing a different specialist right now, and he says the splint was probably pushing my jaw into my ears.

My night guard made my symptoms worse so I stopped wearing. Things have been getting better.

Be careful with your splint!

Re: Things were made worse!

There are bad doctors and dentists in every field, and we should be wary of them to protect ourselves, because using them may result in our financial and bodily harm. Also, these days, there are "too good to be true" web sites and phony testimonies that we have to cope with. It's all a shame. Even when doctors and dentists have lofty degrees that doesn't always mean they are good with people or good in their field. It's a shame. When a doctor or dentist treats everyone the same, it is not a good sign, because they probably lack the intellect to diagnose and treat properly, although the proper way is may be more complex and less lucrative. The TMJ dentist I visited basically only used heat, ultrasound, and electro stimulation physical therapy. I believe there is more to TMJ than that and I should have been wary of "cookie cutter" office methods. Where was the individuality? I made a mistake and have also been made worse! And one more thing, try not to agree to irreversible procedures, such as an RF procedure, to kill painful nerves, because when it is not successful, there is "no going back" and the pain may last a lifetime as a result of the procedure; this is my story and I suffer daily. This reply is written only to help other members get healthier, and avoid dentists and doctors that prey on our vulnerabilities and help members make better decisions. Best of luck.
