Hi really suffering at the moment bad flare up , what's the best antidepressant for pain relief , my doctor gave me amitriptyline but I'm to scared to take it , having really bad facial pain and tightness in face and neck , so just wondering what everyone takes , and does it help the pain a lot

Amitryptiline is an antidepressant that does have effects on chronic pain. Me, I currently take a combination of Cymbalta, Valium, and Soma for chronic pain and to relax the muscles.
Who gave you the Amitryptline? Was it an oral surgeon, prosthodontist, or pain management specialist. If you have seen a pain management specialist yet, you might want to. They can try trigger point injections into the masseter muscle and into the neck, which can also cause TMJ pain.

I tried Amitriptyline and it didn't suit me, so my pain consultant put me on Prothiaden. And I found that great - I hadn't slept properly in six months and after a short while I was sleeping like a baby. I've been on it a year now, I don't sleep quite as well as when I first started taking it but I sleep fine. If it's been prescribed for you don't be afraid to try it. The doctor wouldn't have prescribed it if he didn't feel you needed it (I hope, anyway!) It's generally prescribed in a low-ish dose for pain reliefe. If it's not right for you I'm sure there are other options you could try.

Thankyou pam my doctor gave me amitriptyline ! I haven't seen a pain managment specialist yet I didnt know about that ! And the injection ! Is cymbalta a antidepressent

Cymbalta is an antidepressant that is also approved for diabetic neuropathy, fibromyalgia, and chronic pain. Try seeing a pain management specialist and keep him/her as part of your treatment team!
