Numbness in left side of face - TMJ???
I have been suffering from tingling and then numbness to the left side of my face. I have been to the ER and had a CT scan that came back fine. I've also had bloodwork done that came back fine. It is really getting frustrating. It is the left half of my tongue, cheek, gums, lips, throat, temple, eye, scalp, and chin. It is not Bells Palsy. I saw my dentist and he said that it is not tooth related. I have also seen 3 chiropractors. Everyone keeps telling me that it "should" go away eventually.
I am now beginning to wonder if this numbness could be partially because of TMJ? My jaw muscle is painful when I press on it. My jaw also makes a cracking sound when I open my mouth. One of the chiros kept telling me that my bite was off. And he kept adjusting it. My dentist said nothing regarding TMJ. I do own a night guard because I am a known toothgrinder. However, I have not been wearing it until recently. It has probably been 2 years since I have worn it consistantly.
I now have a call in to a neurologist and am waiting to set up an appointment with him. The numbness in my throat is the most annoying.
Anyone have any thoughts whether this could be TMJ? Total facial numbness on one side of the face is not listed in the symptom list. If anyone thinks that TMJ may be possible, how do you find a good doctor or specialist for TMJ? Any other suggestions? Anyone else ever suffered from these symptoms in the face before?
