Question thyroid nodules

Just got results of ultrasound on thyroid. I had the right side removed 44 years ago due to nodule, so only left side is existing. Dr. read report, enlarged, multiple nodules, non-malignant. I'm confused! How can they tell via ultra sound that these are all beign. Growth is visible on left side of neck, I do have hoarseness and sometimes I can clearly hear a restrictive sound when breathing. He has recommended that I see an endocrinologist for followup.

Re: thyroid nodules

HI..I also have thyroid nodules. They cannot confirm 100% whether they are benign or not unless they do a needle biopsy. I would see the endocr. so they can get this done for you!Good luck!

Question Re: thyroid nodules

I appreciate your quick response and sorry to hear that you are having same problem. I will go to the Endo specialist but I am still wondering why my GP reports benign with just an ultrasound. Any thoughts?

Probably because a very high percentage of nodules are benign. So in his experience he is assuming yours are as well. I would definitely do the follow up to be 100% sure...good luck!
