my symptoms/story

hey all,

from what i have read in numerous sites, sounds like i have this fun thing called TMJ.

it started about a month ago with what i thought felt like a right inner ear infection. plugged up ear sensation, felt a bit sore in back of right throat, whooshing sounds in ear, pressure in right ear.
dull aches in jaw area right below ear and in temple.

i went to walk in clinic and doc found no indication of infection as i described the symptoms. he gave me some nasal spray to help open my eaustatian tubes.

right ear felt like it wasnt popping and had alot of crackling/popping while swallowing.

shortly after i could feel more and more pressure in my jaw and a lot of crunching/cracking while opening and closing, like something was out of joint.

so i had all the full ear with pressure, aches in my jaw below/behind ear, all down my right jaw in which it felt like my glands were swollen.

i do get a lot of headaches in my neck and head and always have knots and tense trapezius/upper back muscles. i work at a computer all day and try not to slouch.

then one night about 1.5 weeks ago i sat on the couch and held an ice-pack to my jaw, popped some Advil and the next day i felt nearly 100%. my ear didnt have pressure, my jaw didnt have ache.

but i do feel a little now. it doesnt affect my life in any way, i just feel it and it does come and go. it doesnt sound like its as bad as others on here that i have read.

ive been hit in the jaw many times my life (hockey player) and i had taken a good one where my jaw felt mis-aligned about 10yrs ago. never did anything about it......... you know, tough hockey player guy. haha.

anyways just thought i would share my story.

Re: my symptoms/story

Don't under estimate this problem as I'm in a same boat except my symptoms are much worse. I also have a desk job which I believe caused this problem as well as my weightlifting. I destroyed my posture plus I clench at night from my stressful job. I ignored symptoms for almost 3 yrs until now where my symptoms don't allow me to ignore them.Im now trying to correct my posture, I do tmj exercises and take 1/2 muscle relaxer before bed. I'm also in the process of having made a night splint.my suggestion to you is quickly realize the problem may get worse and try correcting your posture and work posture ASAP ! Maybe you can prevent/ reverse the process before your situation gets worse. My next step if all else fails is change jobs, money isn't worth the stress !!
