Root canal tooth throbbing, grinding teeth?
I am new here and kind of new to the whole grinding teeth thing (bruxism?) I am not sure if I am in the right area either. Either way, here it goes.
I had a root canal done a while ago, lets say 10 years. It was fine for a while and then after a couple years I would get random soreness in that tooth that would come and go a few times a year.
Skip ahead about 2 years ago my dentist sent me to a root canal specialist (not sure what they are called). They did a re-treat since they said there were some dark spots under my tooth, in my gum and bone. After the re-treat I went back in a month or so later because I was still getting on and off soreness. They said my cap was too high (they didn't put a new cap on, they just filled the cap.) After they adjusted it, it was fine for a while.
Just recently (last week) my tooth started to hurt. It now throbs and wakes me up at night. I can go to sleep with it feeling fine, and then wake up in the middle of the night with it throbbing. I then end up staying up the right of the night.
My question is, can grinding my teeth at night cause pain in a single tooth like that, or does it sound like my root canal is bad again? Also, would a night guard help at all? I have heard good and bad about guards.
Also, I never have thought that grinding my teeth in the night can cause all of these other problems. After reading this forum, I think I figured out why I was getting headaches for the longest time. I would also get facial pains and neck pains throughout the day.
I also suffer from anxiety, and just in the last couple weeks my anxiety has had a spike. I am wondering if my anxiety is causing my teeth grinding.
