Help PLEASE!

I just got MRI test results back and am SO confused, I would LOVE any thoughts or ideas as to what this means?

There is asymmetry in the mandibular condyles. The left mandibular
condyle shows loss of normal fatty marrow, flattening of the cortical
surface of the left mandibular condyle, and decreased signal
consistent with sclerotic change. There is also thinning of the left
temporomandibular joint cartilage and meniscus, as well as
osteophytes along the anterior margin of the condyle. The cartilage
and meniscus in the right temporomandibular joint appears fairly well
preserved, but there is persistent anterior positioning of the right
meniscus on closed jaw position, which recaptures on open position.
Anterior translation with open jaw is normal bilaterally. The bony
margins of the glenoid fossae are unremarkable bilaterally.

Thank you SO much... I am in a great amount of pain, I would love any advice...

Re: Help PLEASE!

i'm not entirely sure - you need to ask your doctor to explain the MRI, thinning of the cartlidge and osteohpytes might mean you have some arthitis in the jaw - I have osteophytes on my left jaw and they said that's due to osteoarthritis - I think oestophyte are small benign bony little growths. With respect to your right jaw its sounds like there may be a problem in way the disc is moving when you open/close your jaw.

But, I really think the best thing for your to do is ask your doctor to go through in detail what the MRI means and the implications in terms of treatment, and in the interim, try to not worry (I know its easier said then done).

Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

Let us know what your doctor says - and remember -there is no such thing as a stupid question when talking to your doctor.

I hope things go well.
