| Re: OCD, tics or tourette's?
I am no doctor, just a highly researched past sufferer of OCD and depression.
Both OCD and tic/tourettes are related anxiety disorders. Most disorders of the mind are related to the various chemical endorphins in the mind, or the lack thereof. Some of the disorders are related to particular chemicals, such as OCD and seritonin. Tourettes is related to dopamine and seritonin.
The most common drug to treat depression and OCD are SSRI's which slow down the reabsorbtion of seritonin in the brain once it is releases. Thus the medication is supposed to enhance the effect of what seritonin we do have.
Dopamine drugs are a bit different, such as MAOI inhibiters. These are common and stop your brain from producing so much of one chemical so another (Dopamine, which is a feel good chemical) can thrive. Also Nicotineacts as a MAOI inhibiter, which is why smokers have so much trouble quitting. Smoking makes them "feel good". Doctors do prescribe nictotine patches to tourettes patients, and they are quite effective with adults and children.
