Hi I have Tourette Syndrome with ADHD and ODC. I am currently learning for an exam and at those points I always get way more confused then usual. I am 25 years old and I have had to cope with this for a long time.
I have such a hard time focusing on one project. My mind wanders and I am depressed. I have had the same doctor since I was 6 and the last time we met was about a half a year ago.. he lives in another town so its really hard for me too see him on regular basis.. I want too keep on being able too learn and function but I am so confused and scared all the time.
My family has always been supportive of my TS but lately I havn´t been able too express myself too my family because my point of view about anything always seem too be wrong too them. Im learning to become what I have always dreamed of being but I have such trouble staying focused that I end up avoiding doing it and then I fail.
If anyone has any advice on coping with ADHD and Tourette please share it because I Really NEED help.
My heart goes out to you. I wish so much I had all the solutions. I don't.
TS and ADHD are frequent traveling companions. It seems that the cure (stimulants) for the one is the exascerbator of the other.
You need a highly qualified shrink that can exactly balance the medications. You can ask about Strattera or Intuniv along with a low dose of an amphetamine based med. I suspect straight d-amphetamine, Dexedrine, would be best for you. Just my layman's perspective.
The one thing I am absolutely sure of is YOU CAN BE "all you dreamed of." It is "simply" a matter of finding the right doctor.
Cases like your depress me (in a most positive way). Just doesn't have to be.
Has anyone suggested medication for your problems? I know the use of medication can be controversial, especially for ADHD, but our son has it and he is on Vynase. he says it does help him to concentrate better.
I used to take Serol when I was younger and at the time I thought it was great allthough it made me overly agressive at times. Serol was never meant to treat my ADHD but my ODC and depression. I did Concerta for a while but it just made me sleepy and un-energetic.
I will definetly try to find a new specialist one that I can be in more contact with. Im also wondering if there are better specialists elsewhere since I live in a small country and there are not many specialist concerning Tourettes here.
I feel that my ADHD is the worse thing for me personally. Im really not affraid of ticks or ODC in fact I have been able to chanell my ODC into things I am interested in.
Thanks for the advice guys I will look into it and post back soon
I just killed that exam the other day. Got a huge score well over 90%. I was really happy about it.
I still feel though that I need to go too the doctor for a more pro-longed treatement for. I have already booked an appointement and I hope I can find a sollution that can handle my loss of concentration in the long run
Tricks of the trade are more important than meds. Ultimately my "tricks" such as funneling my thought threads using recorded dynamic lists are what enable me to control my symptoms. I can do the OCD thing too. Problem with it is pulling out when needed.
The meds, in my case, have been the vehicles that have enabled me to learn and master the tricks.
I doubt if any additional meds are needed in your case.
Double congrats on your exam score. Congrats 1: Everyone needs to work hard to succeed. - You did. Congrats 2: ADHD folk need to work 10x hard to succeed. You did that too.
My 12 year old son has Tourettes and ADHD. Nothing was working for him until he was put on a very low dose of Risperdal. The only time he wasn't ticking was when he was asleep. He has been on this low dose of Risperdal for a short period of time. But WOW what a difference!! I have noticed a major decrease in tics. So far no major side effects...
