Clonidine for Vocal tics for a 9 year old boy? Looking for feedback!

Hello Folks,

My son (Zain) is almost 9 years old with Aspergers (very mild autism).

For the last 6 weeks or so, he has developed quite severe vocal tic, like loud and intense ' Taaah' or "Baaah' or "Okayy!" and usually is quite intense. He has few good days but most of the time it's pretty rough for him.

The neuro-ped said that he can put Zain on Clonidine. Now, I am unsure. My main concern is side effects? and also, can Clonidine bring or trigger some other negative tic or maybe motor tic?

Please share you experience with this medicine?

Has it been helpful in vocal tics?

How soon do you see improvement if any?

Thank you,

Ed

i have tourettes and im in 9th grade. i've been on clonidine since 5th grade. it works, depending on the person. for me i'd have an occasional arm tic or swallow noise, but my tics were almost gone and unnoticeable. some people say clonidine mqkes you tired but that was never an issue for me (: it worked like magic for me.

Just curious how the Clonidine worked. My son is 10 years old and has Tourettes. He's been on Intuniv 1mg but I havent seen any changes. His neurologist is switching him over to Clonidine in 1 week. I really hope this one helps!
