9 year old with motor and vocal tics and some ocd

Hi Everyone!
So I am new to this healthboard but and I think it is great the support out there. My child is 9 years old. She was diagnosed 3 years ago with a minor vocal tic. Last summer she started having motor tics as well as some ocd also. Her neurologist put her on Risperdol which I NEVER recommend to anyone! After a little over a month being on it we stopped it. It made her have anxiety issues, full blown panic attacks and halucinations. It was the scariest thing for both of us. We stoped the med and the panic and halucinations stopped however she still has anxiety now. Currently everything tic wise seems to be silent. However, we all know it is just a matter of time until they start again and will they be the same ones? or new ones?
At one point they mentioned Clonidine. Is anyone familar with this medicine?? I am just too scared to try anymore mediciations after what she went through with Rispirdol.
You here people mention certain vitamens help. Has anyone had any luck with anything to help decrease the amount of tics?
Thanks for taking the time to read this and any advise you have.

Re: 9 year old with motor and vocal tics and some ocd

Greetings Curiousmom1981! Sugar is known to increase anxiety and panic and some artificial sweeteners and substances have been known to increase tics. Sometimes allergens or triggers can cause them. I have seen people with tics medicine and all. Furthermore the liver and kidneys must detoxify these with a burden and as seen in the above post can cause awful side effects. My deepest sypathies to this situation. Peace, sjb

Re: 9 year old with motor and vocal tics and some ocd

I take Haldol for my tics and it works wonders for me. Haldol minimizes my tics so much that people don't even realize I have Tourette Syndrome.

Is there a chance that your daughter had an anxiety disorder you didn't know about before starting Risperdol and that the stress of the chemicals in Risperdol caused the effects of the disorder to surface? I have Tourette's, but I also have OCD and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (with panic attacks); however, my anxiety didn't surface until I had a stressor in my life that caused it to emerge.
