Kidney Transplant And Diabetes

Hi everyone,

I have a question about blood glucose control after kidney transplant. My dad was diagnosed with kidney failure in August last year and had his transplant done in November last year in a foreign country. The problem is that my parents don't come from the US or anywhere with a good healthcare system. So, we don't exactly have specialists to provide good post operative care. Could anyone please tell me how you've been controlling diabetic blood sugars after kidney transplant? My dad has type 2 adult onset diabetes and ever since kidney transplant has been on insulin because nobody in our home country seems to know what blood glucose drugs are compatible with antirejection drugs. Could anyone please share their stories? Thank you.

Re: Kidney Transplant And Diabetes

I can't help too much except to offer support. I have type 1 and I have always been on insulin. From what I know about my anti-rejection drugs, there is no interaction with the type 2 drugs. Ask your transplant center what they think. They deal with a lot of people with diabetes and can probably point you in the right drug direction.

Good luck.
