Kidney transplant - Transplants Message Board

My sister went into the hospital due to a lung infection and was given antibotics which not only put her in a coma but destroyed her kidneys.She came out of the coma.
Now four years later she must go for dialysis three times a week and is worried that her name will never come up for a transplant. The doctors are not commenting.
I have heard that a transplant can be obtained in China and in India.(Funding would not be a problem)
Does anyone have any knowledge of this or any suggestions?

Personally I would never go there. I know that some people do, but it is not a good idea. A colleague of one of my doctors is from India and was assured by a doctor that he knows there that they had found a kidney for him. This man is a well respected doctor here in Canada. He thought that it was a friend of a friend who wanted to donate. He took one look at the potential donor and had a nice holiday instead. The man (the donor) hadn't even been tested for HIV!!

There are a lot of horror stories out there. I am sure that many of them are just urban legend, but I would not get a kidney transplant done in anther country unless I knew the donor personally and had family living there to take care of me.

The best way is to get a kidney from a family member. My mom is giving me one of hers.
