Question Heart Transplant

I'm a 39 yr. old black male awaiting a heart transplant. My doctor's would like to perform Plasma Pheresis Therapy just prior to transplantation due to the high percentage (35%) of antibodies in my blood. They also said they would not do a crossmatch prior to suregery.

Has anyone had any experience with Plasma Pheresis Therapy or information regarding it? Also, does anyone know if there are any natural remedies to remove antibodies from blood? If so, please respond.

Re: Heart Transplant

hi harmo,

my son has had 3 open heart surgeries and the during the last two he had trouble with reactions from the antibodies. it sounds to me like it would be a good idea to do the therapy to remove as much of that risk as possible.

i hope it all goes well for you.

Re: Heart Transplant

Hi
I am a plasma donor....from what I have heard or know.....you don't need to match recipients with donors as you do with blood products. The plasma therapy is really just an opportunity to 'hyper boost' your immune system with some immunities from another person.
The therapy is used a lot with burn victims and also multiple sclerosis sufferers...you might find more 'technical' information from one of those messageboards.

all the best
elizabeth
