Smile kidney transplant

I had a kidney transplant in 1995 due to a birth defect. I have steroid induced diabetes since 2000. Just wondering if someone in the forum has had this type problem and can help me lower my blood sugar count. It usually runs in the 200's no matter what I eat. I take prednisone every day and have gained about 75 pounds since my transplant. I just signed up here today and would appreciate any suggestions.

Re: kidney transplant

Hi there. I have had diabetes since 1966 and that was what caused my kidney failure. I can't relate to getting diabetes, but I can tell you that you need to get your blood sugars under control. I am surprised that your doctors are allowing it to go that high. Unfortunately, the higher and the longer your blood sugars are high, the harder it will be on your kidney transplant. I would strongly recommend that you discuss this with your doctors and immediately try to get your blood sugars down.

Have they done a hemoglobin a1c test to see what your average blood sugar has been for the last 3 months?

Sorry I can't be more help, but high blood sugar will damage your kidney and it needs to be dealt with.

Good luck.

Cora
