Longest surviving kidney transplant?

Hey everone, I'm a newbie to this forum so let me know if I'm steppin outta bounds here. I am a kidney transplant patient going on 33 yrs, and for a while now I've had this thought on how long the longest kidney transplant surived? I'm on old school rejection drugs predizone/imuran and hav'nt and have had no rejection episodes as of yet (hopfully never).

thanks

Re: Longest surviving kidney transplant?

I wasn't sure, so I did a bit of a search and found this :

Bill Thompson is the longest surviving American kidney recipient. Having received his kidney in 1966 at age 15, it has survived over 40 years.

Congrats on the longevity of your graft. Was it from a living donor? When I had my kidney transplant my donors roommate was giving a kidney to her sister-in-law. The woman's first kidney lasted 35 years and it was from a deceased donor.

Continued good look and stay rejection-free.

Re: Longest surviving kidney transplant?

Thanks for that info Cora... my transplant was from a 16yr old cadaver. I was born with alports syndrome and went on dialysis at age 15 and was on the list for transplant. I got my 1st transplant offer when I was 16 and turned it down (little inner voice said your not ready), man did that stir up the Dr's. Well about 6 months later I got my 2nd call and went in to Childrens Hospital in Chicago and the rest is history. I guess I got lucky and under the watchful eye's of the good lord, my mother, wife & kids, and my Dr I hope to have many more yrs of freedom from "the chair".

thanks
