| | advice from transplant patients
My husband got a kidney transplant on June 1, 2010. It has been less than a year, and I have so many questions for those of you who have had transplants for such a long time.
His renal failure was due to RPGN, and happened out of the blue. Fine one day, renal failure the next. I'm always worried about his health, and as he puts it "would have him in a plastic bubble" if he allowed it!
If I get sick, I stay at my mother's or have him sleep in a different room (tough feat for a one bedroom apt). What do those of you with spouses or children do when they are sick?
Also, my husband was recently diagnosed with BK virus, but they are getting it under control. He was originally on tacrolimus and myfortic. His meds were recently changed from myfortic to arava due to the virus. They also put him on Levaquin. Any of you have an experience with this situation? Will he be on Levaquin forever since the virus never goes away?
Would it be okay for him to drink once in a while? What have you all done to remain healthy with compromised immune systems? Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks so much to those of you who reply!
