Trigeminal Neuralgia Patient w/ recent MVD surgery
Hello, I recently posted my situation on the general board but realized I should narrow it down. I have been suffering from TN for almost 10 years-I am now 34. My story is much like many other TN patients, have been to dentist, endos, nerologists, etc.. I have severe pain on the left side of my face, it manifested as a tooth ache in a front tooth. After multiple surgeries I had the tooth pulled, about a year later the pain returned and this time it was a constant tooth pain joined by face pain, headaches and sometimes stabbing sensations in my left ear.
I had the MVD surgery at the end of September, this next week will be the 6 week mark. I went to Dr. Janetta in Pitts (he is the neurosurgeon who developed the MVD procedure and is supposed to be the best). He and is staff were wonderful and they removed a blood vessel and an artery from the nerve. The night of the surgery was pretty horrific, I was in severe pain and any small move I made caused my head to feel like it was going to explode. Turns out I had swelling of the brain which steriods controlled.
My question is, has anyone had or know anyone that has had MVD and what are the results??
I understand that the nerve can be damaged by the constriction of the blood vessel and artery and needs time to heal. The doctors said it could take weeks.
I appreciate any feedback, as those with TN know it is very frustrating and takes away from your life. Thank you!
