Unhappy Trigeminal Deafferentation

I have severe pressure and numbness in my head and face. I had a Gamma Knife for trigeminal neuralgia five years ago and this started 6 months after the surgery. My Dr., a neurosurgeon, says nothing can be done, that the nerve is just damaged. I have hope that I don't have to live like this, can anyone help? Thank you

Re: Trigeminal Deafferentation

The facial pain association can give you the name of an approved TN doc in your area or you can call the TN clinic at Presbyterian Hospital - University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA and talk with them. A doctor there invented the vascular decompression surgery which is the usual treatment. My sister went there and had the VDC surgery and it worked great for her. I know several people who have had the gamma knife procedure since it has been available and it was not successful for any of them longterm.
I am sorry you are having to go thru this.

Re: Trigeminal Deafferentation

Glad it's worked out for you. It did for my sister as well about 10 years ago...
