Can a bulge at T3 cause occipital neuralgia and arm problems?
I was in a car struck at the back which, because I was sitting stationery at a junction head turned sharp right, body forward over steering wheel, I was thrown sideways 's' shape to the left then back. This was 5 months ago. I had the usual whiplash symptoms, sore stiff neck, shoulder pain and from the outset- pain, heaviness numbness and tingling in left arm and hand - more recently (from 2 months ago) **** awful back of head occipital headaches (especially to the left side) and can hardly brush my hair, let alone touch my head - every day - they just vary in intensity. Sometimes it feels like ants are crawling up the back of my skull - MRI revealed a bulge at T3 but doc said it probably wouldnt account for my head pain - that it was all coming from the whiplash injury to my neck. Can anyone tell me if they have had similar symptoms, and do they ever go away? I feel somedays Im going mad with the persistant nagging ache in my head/neck and shoulders - I'm sick of painkillers and would love a nights sleep!!

Ask your doctor if you are a candidate for an EMG test? An EMG can determine exactly which nerves are contributing to your symptoms.
Also, is your doctor a neurologist? If not, then ask for a referral to a neurologist. You've had these symptoms for quite a long time and they need further investigation.
The T3 bulge could be the reason for your hand/arm symptoms, but not the occipital neuralgia.
