I think I have TN and I am just a wreck about it. It started about 2-3 years ago with an earache. It would come and go, like a throbbing. Then I started getting a pain in my lower cheek near jaw that feels like a rubberband snapping. Waiting for my Dr to call so I can get some tests done. I am so scared that I am shaking...
Well, the good thing is that you are not far from the best TN clinic in the country at University of Pittsburgh, Presbyterian Hospital. My sister went there....ended up having the vascular decompression surgery and has been virtually pain free for over 10 years.
Also you can check with the facial pain/TN assoc for the names of approved docs in your area.
Sounds more like TMJ with the earache but my TN pain does sometimes feel like a rubberband on my skin, TMJ rubberband is more inside at the jaw and I get a creaking sound like rubber against rubber. I think TN is more of a skin feeling for me though, either fire or prickling numbness, may be more internal for someone else! Good luck with your doctor!
