Quick question?

Hi All-

I have a question for you. Just wanted to know if this was familiar to anyone. Okay for about 2-3 years now I have had issues with swallowing cold things and have had to start to drink only hot or luke warm beverages or items with no ice. So that means if I go to the store and buy a soda I have to let it sit to drink it. Anywho when I do try to drink a slushy or ice cold water I get a pain in my throat/neck that is so unbelievable I can't even begin to describe it. I start to reach for things to grab because I have no idea what the hell else to do. If it was a big gulp of something the pain goes up as far as over the top of my ear. This is all on my right side. I have never told anyone because the people that have seen me experience this only made fun of me because they thought I was losing my mind. My husband says instead of getting a brain freeze I get a throat freeze. Yeah haha until his but feels that dang pain. I mean the pain is knee dropping. It doesn't last for hours or anything but it can last for 30 seconds to a little over a minute or more. Now I should say it also happens when I eat things of certain textures I have noticed, but the pain is nearly not as bad as when I get a huge gulp of something ice cold or ice cream. I don't do any of that stuff. I messed up and got a slushy from Sonic yesterday and tried to drink it all excited because my kids had one too. I took a big gulp and paid the ultimate price and threw it away. It feels like I have an inflamed nerve in my neck now. It's not in real bad pain like when it gets triggered but it feels agitated, this is the same spot where I feel the pain in my throat/neck. Any input would help. Thanks in advance.

Re: Quick question?

Definitely not TN symptom but I suggest you see and ENT as it may be some throat issue that needs addressing.

Re: Quick question?

Thanks Titchou! I was thinking more on the lines of GN/Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia. I read somewhere that people with TN also sometimes have GN as well. I am going to bring it up to my Neuro on my next visit as it does cause me extreme pain but I just thought it was something quirky developing with age. I get tons of muscle spasms in my face and neck too which are so stinking painful, but could be irritating that nerve.
