Any advise on meds for TN that have worked for you?

Hi everyone,

I was recently diagnosed with TN and have been having an awful time getting the pain under control. So far nothing I have been on has touched the pain to where I get any solid relief. I have so far been on the full dose of neurotin and Lyrica. I have just started trileptal but no good results yet. All these medications have just zonked me out, although it seems the neurotin maybe improved my mood oddly enough. I was just wondering if anyone has been able to manage their pain with meds and if so which ones. I will probably do or take any med to get this managed!
Thanks in advance for all the advice!

Some other meds that can help for TN are Baclofen and carbamazepine. Most definitely discuss your out of control pain situation with your doctor soon as there's no need for you to go on long term like this.

I hope you get this under control soon!

My sister had TN and the meds did not help. She had the decompression surgery at Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh where it was invented. Highly successful.

I am on 150mg of Lyrica 3 times a day and it didn't help much until my doctor added 10mg. lorazepam twice a day. Makes a big difference although I sometimes take tylenol for breakthrough pain.

Hope it helps.

Re: Any advise on meds for TN that have worked for you?

Hi Dawndew
Lyrica and gabapentin are both painkillers...they essentially ONLY numb the pain, and dont necessarily do anything to repair the damage..
TN happens because of damage to the nerves or the sheath covering the nerve, thus expoosing the nerve. PAinkillers will only temporarily numb the pain, and you will have to keep taking em until one day you get fed up and are reeled in to surgery.
I suffered with TN for 8 long years...every doctor and neurologist kept giving me larger and larger doses of painkillers (cos after a while your body starts developing resistance). Then I looked into alaternative medicine, particularly Ayurveda.
I was prescried this herbal combination called Niargim, by an Ayurvedic doctor, and at first i was kind of skeptical that it would even work...Bt i was Amaazed at how effective it was!!
These herbs not only relieve pain, buthelp repair your damaged nerves, nding your condition once and for all. You can even get a prescription for these, online, and theyre not all that expensive. Definitely worth a try..
