why am I not pregnant?

I am new to this board. I am trying to concieve for about 2 months and already took an ovulation test this month (September) and we had sex twice the day of my "surge" and at least 3 days before and 3 days after. I started my period today. What happened? Why am I not pregnant? I think something is wrong with me...could this be the case? How long should I wait before I got to the doctor for tests? I've read that it could take up to 6 months for a normal couple to become pregnant...is this really true? I am really concerned that I may not be able to have children...how do I know if I need to be on fertility drugs? I am 25 years old. Thanks for any replies! Take Care!

Re: why am I not pregnant?

A lot of doctors will tell you to ttc for one year before a specialist will take you. You can see if your gyno will test you for any imbalances, but 2 months isn't that long of a time. Keep trying and hopefully it will work out for you. Keep us posted.

Re: why am I not pregnant?

yeah two months really isnt a long time, you only have about a 15% chance of becoming pregnant in any given month and that is a healthy couple....
also you can overdo the amount of sex you have...they say only to have sex everyother day in the week you will ovulate. if you have to much sex the male can have a lower sperm count and actually lower your odds of conception! everyother day is pleanty, male sperm can live for 2 days inside you so even if you have sex one day and then ovulate the next you still have a good chance of conception since the sperm are still alive and well

i am newly pregnant with baby # 2 (with my first daughter i was preg. within 3 months of stopping the pill, with this baby it took 6 months to concieve...and i bought the ovulation predictors had sex everyday i was "fertile" with nothing
and then it happened (finally) last month when we barley did anything and i wasnt even monitoring my "fertile" time...
relaxation....it is the key

Re: why am I not pregnant?

I think they say that a healthy couple, even with perfect timing only has about a 15-20% chance in any given month to get pregnant. That means with PERFECT timing every time, it should take the average couple 5-7 months to conceive. Two months is way too soon to start worrying something might be wrong, but I think we all know that ttc is stressful. Just try to enjoy it!

Re: why am I not pregnant?

In most cases healthy couples with no known problems can take up to a year to even two years to conceive. It is true most doctors as long as you are under a certain age(35) will tell you that you need to be ttc for a year.

Two months is not that long at all when you look at the bigger picture. Best thing is to relax and just enjoy the specail time wth your partner because once pregnancy does happen and then a baby is around it is a lot harder to have that special time.
Another thing you can do is read the book Taking Charge Of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It can give you some great info to increase your chances of pregnancy.
