Just got my ovulation scope - I see ferns already! ??? - Trying to Conceive (TTC) Message Board

My ovulation scope came in the mail yesterday. When I tried it, there was nothing-definitely just looked infertile. When I tried it later that day, I did maybe see some crystalizations forming on the edges (which is supposedly where they start), but still, defininitely not a fertile sample. Now this afternoon, there is no doubt about it - I definitley see ferning. It looked really cool.

So now the strange part...I am only on cycle day 7. Ferning is suppose to start showing up 3-4 days before you ovulate - which would still only put me at ovulating by day 11. That is pretty early for most everyone. The earliest I have ovulated is day 13...and I have ovulated as late as day 18 before (which is when I ovulated last month). So....??? I don't know. The ovulation scope is so new to me so even though i know about it, I haven't tested it and used it for myself much yet. I just don 't see myself ovulating in the next few days, but DH and I will be prepared just in case. But really...day 11 is pretty early. But we will see.

Anyone familiar with the ovulation scopes have any thoughts? Has anyone use an ovulation scope for more than one cycle and become really familiar with it?

Did you eat/drink/brush teeth within 3 hours of testing?

No, I don't think I did. And I did another sample an hour later - same results: ferning. I know you aren't suppose to eat, drink, or brush your teeth several hours before using it...but if you did could that actually cause ferning? It seems more like that would cause more random dots and stuff and make it look infertile.

I will be interested to see what it looks like in the morning - when I definitely haven't eaten, etc. in many hours.

I tested mine out, just to see what would happen if i ate and then licked the microsope, i got loads of spots and no ferning so i guess they say not to eat before as it may look like you are in the transition period rather than ovulation being close.

What did it look like this morning when you did it?

Satuday and Sunday afternoons I definitely saw ferning (so did DH). I used it this morning (Monday) and no ferns at all. But I don't think my saliva samples are as good in the morning. When I was putting a saliva sample on the scope it was more bubbly and just not as "good" looking as at the other times. So there wasn't ferning this morning, but I haven't ovulated yet. I am only on day 9 anyway. So I guess I will tr it later on and see what happens.
