Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

Well, i went to my specialist appointment on tuesday and the gynecologist there asked me all kinds of questions, eg when was my last af? had i had one since coming off depo?

He asked dh to take a pot home with him and produce a semen sample, i feel bad for getting hubby involved - if you see what i mean, i didnt want him to have to give a sample i just assumed that they would check me out first and then if i was ok they would move on to Dh, i felt so, so bad, hubby didnt mind but i though 'what am i getting him into'.

Anyway, he has put me on Norethisterone at one 5mg tablet three times a day, he says after i have finnishe them (i only get a two week supply) that af should arrive by the 3rd day and if it doesnt he needs to know.

My question is - has anyone ever been on this to kick start your af? in the instructions it says it could post pone af so i am a little confused.
What is this drug?

Any help would be appreciated

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

Thats great that your appointment went ok Sammie
That medication is an ingredient in some contraceptive pills. After our sort of problems, doctors sometimes perscribe the contraceptive pill to bring periods back, so that sounds about right with what your gyn said.

ive got lots of questions for you.

what did the gyn say if AF does show? will you then be ovulating normally so you should then go on and do lots of BD ing at the right times?

or are you at this stage going to need other treatment?

did the gyn give you any idea roughly about a time scale to an estimate to when you might be pg?

did they say anything about metformin and clomid?

my doctor thinks i'll be looking at a 1.5 yr time frame to be pg, from my appointment a couple of weeks ago. how he came to that figure i dont know, maybe he has a crystal ball
sorry to be nosy. I havent had my appointment yet, but should hopefully be soon. But im in no desperate hurry. what will be will be.

i have had cramping, bucket loads of creamy cm, ferning for days followed by a huge thermal shift. so i am currently 4DPO. things are a lot more 'definate' this month, with symptoms etc, so some normality is returning. phew!

anyhow heres hoping AF visits us both very soon

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

If af shows i am to have another blood test on day 2-5 of bleeding (you know me and needles) and another blood test on day 21, i am to babydance on day 12,14,16,18 and 20! It is not 100% that my af will return to normal but because before i went on depo af showed on time, to the day each month he believes i have a good chance, i may need more tablets though but they do not like to keep you on them for a long period of time.

The gyn did not give me any clue as to when he thinks i may get pg, i assume he will go into more depth at our next appointment, if i do not get af 2-3 days after coming off the tablets i have to go back to him, he said to call him and he would squeeze me in that day, which is nice, he hasnt gone into the fact that he may put me on metformin or clomid yet, i guess that would be discussed if af does not arrive.

What appointment was that, that you had to go to, was it a specialist or just your gp. It too 8 weeks to get my appointment with the gyne but i to am now of the thinking of what will be will be as we are trying to set up a business so a baby right now may not be such a good idea but if it happens then it would be a blessing - if you get my drift. All i want is to see af arrive every month like it used to.

I too have been having lots of creamy cm, i havent used my scope since tuesday as im not sure if it would give false readings, do you know if it would?

It is so nice to see that we are both getting back to normalish, such a load off our minds, dont you think.

Anyway, will be thinking of you, keep me posted, fingers crossed for af

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

Well according to fetility friends chart i ovulated on the 28th and so am 7dpo, my temps have been above my coverline since this, if it stays high to day 14 then i will test but if i am what damage could the Norethisterone do to an unborn child?

Any suggestions anyone?

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

I know, its really weird that, we came off the depo at about the same time too! Are you expecting af? What have your temps been like since the 28th eg higher than your cover line? when will you test?

Sorry to be a pain, so many questions!!!

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

my ovulation software gave me a coverline of 97.8
last six temps before o'ing were between 97.1-97.3

then dpo were, 98.0, 98.1, 98.0 97.9, 98.0, 97.8, 98.1

software based my o date by temps, cm, & vaginal sensation. plus ive had tons of ferning too.

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

Well, i had my second appointment yesterday with the gynecologist, he said that i dont need to be re-vaccinated for rubella, (apparently thats what they were testing for) and my hormone levels are now back to normal/within the normal ranges

He says i am ovulating/should be the next couple of day, but in all fairness i could have told him that by going by my cm and bbt chart, i explained to him that i knew ovulation was due 1. Because i was 12 days past my first day of bleeding and 2. Because my chart and cm was telling me so - he does not rely on charting so didnt really listen to that part!!!

He also had my previous history sent from my last hospital and the scan notes say 'ovaries look good, no sign of pco's' OK so WHY was i told that depo would be the best form of contraception for me because it would help with pco's what a load of cods wallop they were talking, all he could say is ''there is a possibility they got your notes mixed up with someone elses'' well thats just GREAT aint it!!! 6 years of being on dep for no apparent reason, i would not have had these problems if i had been diagnosed correctly

He is going to scan my ovaries on the 10th of May - just encase but at least i know now but i am so darn angry, there is someone out there, un knowing to them, who has pcos and may not have been told because our records got mixed up!

Anyway, enough moaning, i have a blood test on the 8th of April to check progesterone and then dh has to submit his sample on the 14th of April, so by the 10th of May we should know all there is to know - so long as they dont get our records mixed up lol

Well - thats my update, i hope everyone is ok, babydust to alll, love sammiep xxx

Re: Tuesdays appointment, question about medication

Louise - i was told in 1996 that i may have pcos and then a scan in 1998 where they told me i had them and the best thing for me was the depo injection, so im figuring we were prob diagnosed around the same time - maybe they did not know so much about pcos then and miss diagnosed a few people, who knows, all i know is that it made my day, i came out of glos hospital with such a grin on my face dh thought i was preg but its just as good, its such a weight off my shoulders, i just hope i dont get them now because of coming off the depo as that is one of the side effects. Fingers crossed for the 10th where they give me the all clear and the go ahead

I know what you mean - my inlaws stress me out also, they have just moved closser to us - oh what a blessing but they do keep there distance, we havent told them or my parents that we are ttc because i cant do with the monthly phone call of them asking ''are you? or when will you know'' it would just add more pressure.

Good luck with the move, i will keep you all informed and springlings of baby dust to you.

Heres to some bfp's soon
