Low Hormones?

My husband and I are ttc. I'm 5 days late, on a 28 cycle that comes like clock work. With my last pregnancy I was 10 weeks pregnant by the time a home pregnancy test showed a positive result. 5 months ago I thought I was pregnant, took 1 test - got a faint line. I waited a few days took another one and there was no line. So I scheduled an appointment with my OBGYN, It took a few weeks to get in, by then I did get a heavy painful period on day 43. Could I have been pregnant? Is it possible the hormones in my body aren't high enough?

Re: Low Hormones?

Yes, you were probably pregnant. If the test was positive and you read it correctly and within the time allowed by the tests. False positives are rare and usually occur if you are taking a medication or an injection that would put HCG (the pregnancy hormone) into your body. It could have been a chemical pregnancy. The amount of pregnancy hormone varies in different women and the amount measured in tests varies depending on the test. I would think most HPT's would show positive by at least 30 days past ovulation (apx two months after last period) since by then most women should have at least 1000 mil of HCG.

Re: Low Hormones?

Thanks, I've never taken birth control or hormone supplements, so I'm not sure how else a chemical pregnancy can happen.
Today I am 6 days late, yesterday I had a little bit of watery pinkish/brownish spotting. Possibly implantation bleeding?? not sure, so I will test again this weekend. Is there anything I can do to help my body maintain a pregnancy? (I don't drink, smoke, do drugs, or coffee) I also eat very well. I'm just not sure if my body is rejecting the pregnancy because it's not sure what it is, does that make sense?

Re: Low Hormones?

it sounds like you had a m/c early in pg. apositive test showed pg hormones in your body and a later test showed they had gone away. followed by a later then af date bleed it sounds like m/c to me. lots of women do not realise they have m/c but 1 in 4 pg end in m/c. luckily after 1 m/c your rate of m/c is the same as someone who has never been pg. there is often no explanation for early m/c it is just one of those things that happen that we have no control over. it is thought the egg either did not implant properly or the development post conception has gone wrong leading to a m/c. good luck for bfp soon

Re: Low Hormones?

A chemical pregnancy is only a very early miscarriage. It's a miscarriage that happens before the baby could be actually viewed, but it was there and began to make the pregnancy hormone. There are reports that people are only beginning to realize how common they are with these very sensitive HPT's. There was probably nothing that could have been done to make the baby "stick." Generally, early miscarriages occur because of chromosomal abnormalties with the baby, but there are other reasons including luteal phase defect, the shape of your uturus, etc. If you have more than three of these, I'd discuss it with my doctor.
