I would think you can only get pregnant when you are ovulating since there needs to be an egg there for the sperm to fertilize. That doesn't mean you have to BD on the actual day you ovulate in order to get pregnant though as sperm can live for up to 5 days. So you may BD 4 days before you ovulate but conception won't actually occur until the egg is released. And I think I read that the egg dies within about 24 hours so it would have to happen within about 24 hours of ovulation. So I don't think it is possible to conceive more than 24 hours after you ovulate since the egg would have died. It is possible to ovulate at different times in your cycle other than the standard day 12-16, so someone who conceives on day 21 for example would not have conceived when they weren't ovulating, they just would have ovulated late in their cycle.
