Wink Sorry, another progesterone question!

Hello gals!

I've been teetering on the fence as to whether or not I will take my OBGYN's offer to go on progesterone while TTC. For those who don't know, I had 2 early M/C @ 5 wks. I saw my RE, he said day 21 prog. level was normal and I didn't need it, but I'm still not convinced (I spot a couple days before AF, which apparently is sign of low prog). OBGYN said it will not hurt me in any way, so I'm thinking why not? I was initially gonna wait and try 1 more time, and then start it if I m/c again. But I want a baby NOW!!! Here's the question, (sorry it took so long) For those who did this, did you take shots, pills, or suppositories? I have a rx for pills that I used to try and save the last pg, but it seems everyone else talks about suppositories. Are they better or something?

Re: Sorry, another progesterone question!

Hi there. I really think it's just a matter of personal preference for what form of progesterone to take. Although, I would think the suppositories might be best because they are right in the area where the progesterone is needed, if you know what I mean, but then again I'm in no way a medical expert! Anyway, I'm 7 wks pg and have low progesterone too, so my doc gave me the suppositories. I have been taking them a week now with no side effects yet--don't know if you've seen my other posts, but I have no real pregnancy symptoms yet at all. I will say that the suppositories are extremely messy--I've been wearing pantiliners all day since starting them because the medicine leaks out (sorry if TMI).

My opinion is if your doc thinks you need it, and you've already had two prior miscarriages, then go for it. If your body isn't making enough progesterone to sustain the pregnancy until the placenta is formed (around 10-12 weeks) then a miscarriage is almost a given. Two of my coworkers had problems conceiving, started taking progesterone before getting pregnant, and both have happy, healthy children. Good luck!

Thanks JoJo,

Any idea why the bottle says "Do not take if you are pregnant"?

Re: Sorry, another progesterone question!

Nope, no idea. Sounds like that's a question for your doc. My bottle doesn't say that. Good luck.

Re: Sorry, another progesterone question!

I am taking Estradiol. I guess it is a form of estrogen. I started taking clomid also. My doctor said the estradiol would build up my uterus so I wouldn't be as likely to miscarry. My bottle says "don't take if become preg." I take them for 21 days and them if I am preg I go back to see the doc. I am not sure how long he will keep me on this. Has anyone else heard of estradiol before?
