hit's air and dies? - Trying to Conceive (TTC) Message Board

Ok, I'm not really sure where this topic truly belongs.
But I've seen on numerous pregnancy forums, where someone will ask if they can get pregnant through semen being passed via fingers, clothing, etc.

Most replies were no, because apparently when semen hit's air it dies.

I'm figuring this can't be true because if a man goes to have a SA completed, most certainly at some point the semen hit's the air.

So my question is, has anyone who has been TTC's husbands had a SA done and actually asked the same question?

I'm thinking this is likely to be a myth of some sort. But curious sparked my attention.

My hubby went to have a SA done last month and they told him as SOON as he was finished to take them the sperm immediately because they only have a certain amount of minutes. I can't remember how long that was though. The only thing I've heard of that dies immediately after hitting the air is the HIV virus.

When DH has to drop off a sample for the IUI, he has one hour to get the sample to the doctor's office.
