Hey all, we are TTC now for almost a year, and while we were at Vitamin World in the Mall, I was looking for some Evening Primrose Oil (calms my antsy pants down), and the woman at the counter asked me if I was TTC (weird, right?). I told her yes, and she suggested taking prenatal vitamins for awhile as well as Vitex... I read up on Vitex, but I am a little skeptical if it really works or if there are any side effects? Has anyone taken it? I just dont want to give my hopes up...

The woman asked if you were TTC because Evening Primrose Oil is a common supplement taken to increase cervical mucus -- I'm sure that's what she was assuming you were using it for.
Vitex has worked for many women. However, you need to know your body and your cycles really well before starting Vitex because you may not be fixing the problem -- and sometimes taking it makes things worse. Vitex is nature's clomid. Clomid helps you ovulate earlier in your cycle. It is so much like Clomid that a Gyn won't prescribe Clomid if you have been taking Vitex!
I am very much in favor of using natural remedies, but I think it is important to know what you are getting in to. If you know if/when you ovulate and you know that this is an issue for you, take it -- it might be just the thing to getting your BFP!
The first month that you chart probably won't make sense. The first month gives you something to compare to in the coming months. Plus, if you ever visit a gyn or reproductive specialist, they will want to see several months of charts -- so it's a good thing to continue. Have you tried ovulation predictor kits? I know some women who thought they weren't O'ing but when they tried OPKs they realized that they were, but that they couldn't feel it. Just a thought.
If you think it will help, go for it. From what I have read, it takes 3-9 months to be effective. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
I've read on other web boards that EPO was not to be take after ovulation. But I'm not sure if it prevents implantation or just poses a risk to a developing baby. I don't take it though. I just wanted to give a heads up just in case this was news to you. Sorry if I'm mis-informed. Good luck to you!!!
I have also read that EPO should not be taken after ovulation and to the contrary that it should only be discontinued when a woman becomes pregnant. With herbs and supplements there is not a lot of large scale lab testing so there is no real, clear-cut answer. My advice is research, research, research and determine the best course for each individual.
my dh and i were ttc for about a year off and on and i decided to start taking vitex because it seemed my cycles were just getting longer and longer so i wanted to shorten it down a little. my cycles were between 40-50 days long when i started it,the day after i stopped af i started taking the liquid vitex 25-35drops a day. i ovulated on cd19or20and received a bfp 10 days later!! i was surprised and i will forever sing it's praises because now i have a 3 month old baby girl whom i love more than anything in the world. it really works and i know that it has worked for a lot of other women on here. definately research it and make sure this is the way you want to go. you can even go and look in my posts from last year to see exactly what was going on when i got pregnant. good luck and i hope you are able to get a bfp soon! and like goldenmom said, the first cycle you probably really won't understand, i know i really didnt. it's better to continue charting so you can start seeing a pattern. i don't know anything about epo so i can't help you with that. but i do know that it is recommended to not take vitex after O. so i bought an ovulation kit and was charting my temps to make sure i knew when the O was and to stop taking the vitex. it is also a very very good idea to go ahead and start taking a prenatal. hope that helps you!! good luck!!

Step66! Remember me?! I had problems similar 2 urz & upon ideas & research from all u guys, i started taking Vitex (liquid) with green tea, prenatals & minimum 2 litres of water everyday... In the 2nd cycle of doing them, I got my bfp! I am 3 months preggo now
I normally ovulated somewhere around CD55+ ... With Vitex it came down in CD28 in my 2nd cycle... U need to be patient & see if it works for u... Try for 3 months 2 see if the stuff is really for u...
Hi all. Iíve never posted before, but Iíve lurked around TTC boards for several months. A few weeks ago I stumbled on a post about vitex (agnus catsus/chasteberry) and decided to try it.
So, I stopped taking depo provera in Aug 2005 (that is, my last shot was Aug 2005 Ė so it would have run out in Nov) after being on depo for around 3 years. A few months later, after no return of AF, I quickly discovered hordes of horror stories aaaagh! and though it seems the side effects vary widely, I desperately scouted around hoping for a hint on when AF might return.
I appreciated being able to read othersí post-depo stories, so here is a rundown of my Ďsymptomsí for the depo-obsessed: I had spotting for the first year and a half, then no AFs and no other noticeable side effects, though I was a little suspicious long term depo was giving me slightly fuzzy eyesight. I had regular periods before depo. I did not miss any shots. I was not overweight before depo and my weight didnít change much, maybe going up just a few kilos (5lb). After the shot ran out, I slowly started getting a few hormonal signs Ė pimples, sore bbs etc. Around Apr/May this year, I started noticing sore bbs more often Ė all the time! In May I had two very, very light AFs Ė sort of, more like a half day of spotting, each two weeks apartÖ then nothing. For months.
Anyhow Ö There were no signs of AF coming back, nearly three months had passed, so in desperation I tried vitex. And wow Ė two days later I had a full, proper, perfect AF, 10 months after my last shot. I hadnít been charting, so I canít be sure, but I now have all the signs of ovulation as well - EWCM, ferns in my microscope, really sore bbs again (and the vitex had really helped with that). Honestly, I donít know if it was the vitex, but after no AF for so long, Iím pretty happy to see her again! Vitex canít be right for everyone, and itís early days for me, but for those considering the natural alternative to the clomid/provera road I say give it a go.
sathi congratulations on your pregnancy i am so happy that i was able to help you!! wow, congratulations to you to jess23! i think vitex is a great help and it does make you ovulate sooner, i know it did for me. but it should only get better and more regular for you. i am so happy to everyone who had good results with vitex! good luck to everyone!

So I find out today that they do not sell Vitex in GNC, Walgreens or CVS.... so I have no idea where to look next. Any who, when you get it in liquid form, how do u take it? Directly or mixing it in your drink? I am so new to liquid forms of anything, Im used to the pill form. However, from what I have read on boards, liquid forms are easier. Any help guys? What should I look for in the yellow pages?
